Our Top Amazon Rainforest
IQUITOS
Iquitos is the largest city in the world unreachable by road. Deep in the Amazon, it’s surrounded entirely by jungle — you can only arrive by air or by navigating the Amazon River for days.
PUERTO MALDONADO
More accessible than Iquitos, Puerto Maldonado offers some of the richest biodiversity on the planet in the Tambopata National Reserve.
The macaw clay lick is an unmissable spectacle: you leave at dawn, hike to a lookout facing a clay cliff, and wait. Then, slowly, hundreds of macaws and parrots arrive — blue, red, green, yellow — perching and feeding in a cacophony of color and sound.
TARAPOTO
Tarapoto lies in the high jungle, which means it’s less hot and humid than Iquitos or Puerto Maldonado — greener, fresher, and surrounded by waterfalls. It’s the perfect destination if you want nature without the extreme heat of the lowlands.
JAÉN
Jaén is the best-kept secret of the Peruvian jungle. Few tourists visit, but it produces some of the world’s finest specialty coffee — award-winning on the international stage. The area’s unique microclimates make it perfect for cultivating exceptional beans.
CHACHAPOYAS
Chachapoyas is a destination that feels like a discovery. Located in the high jungle, between mist-shrouded mountains, it’s home to pre-Inca ruins as impressive as those of the Incas — but without the crowds.
