MANCORA

MÁNCORA

Altitude: sea level (0 m)
Climate: 24–32 °C | Tropical, warm year-round, rainy from January to March
Distance from Lima: 1,165 km (17 hours by bus or 2 hours flight to Piura + 2.5 hours by car)

Máncora is Peru’s beach spot. Warm water, waves for surfing, a relaxed vibe, and an atmosphere mixing travelers from everywhere with Peruvians wanting to disconnect. It’s far, yes, but if you want good beaches and don’t want to leave the country, Máncora is your place.

The beaches are long, with light sand, and the water is the perfect temperature to stay in for hours. Nothing like Lima’s beaches where the water is freezing. Here you jump in and feel comfortable. That’s why it’s also perfect for learning to surf. There are schools everywhere and the waves are gentle for beginners.

From July to October humpback whales migrate. There are tours to see them, and when they jump or move their tail, it’s spectacular. You can also snorkel in Los Órganos, which is nearby, and with luck you’ll see sea turtles.

The nighttime vibe is calm but fun. Beach clubs with music, bars with a cold beer facing the sea, people from all over. It’s not wild partying, it’s more chill.

Practical tip: The high season is December to March (summer), but it’s hotter and more crowded. From April to November it’s quieter and the weather is still good. Bring high SPF sunscreen because the sun burns strong.
